Earlier today, I was trying to follow a Bob Lutz Twitter chat at work. Shortly after it finished, this tweet from Canadian culinary personality Lucy Waverman caught my eye:
Butter 2 slices challah on both sides. Add 1/2 cup taleggio, 6 thin slices crisp apple,1T chutney.Fry slowly on each side pressing down.#yum
I almost stopped my cleanse on the spot. Luckily Maria from Fresh Eats was nearby. She talked me out of aborting the cleanse during a moment of severe weakness. A few hours later, I was still planning my "quit" but my Pilates instructor half-told me to keep on truckin'. {wow! just realized how chi chi this all sounds}
So, here we are. I've now completed four days of detox. I feel great on the inside but I've become completely ambivalent about food. I don't really care what I eat, nor do I really enjoy it. And, that's bothering me a lot! The only thing I'm craving is to start caring again.
Metabolic cleanse dinner menu #4
Red leaf lettuce and grape tomato salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Grilled chicken on top of brown rice spaghetti and store-bought tomato sauce
Big unknown: Will I make it through detox day #5?
You know, that's a pretty good sounding meal for someone on detox. : ) Hang in there, you're almost done.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing awesome! i think you should celebrate the end of your cleanse by joining us on a trip to Zingerman's on saturday :)
ReplyDeleteLadies,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support! I will get through day 5. I know it. I can already feel it.
Zingermans sounds like the perfect ending to this madness.

the thing about a cleanse is about day 3-4 is when your body starts ridding itself of fat soluble toxins. Also, yeast overgrowth starts breaking down releasing and disposing other toxins which trigger emotional reactions, headaches, irritability,etc. The toxins make you crave more toxins. Also, as your body loses fat, it also has a hormone which triggers cravings for certain comfort foods (cheesecake, muffins, bread, cheese). So that's why you're feeling this way. Keep it going- you will feel amazing by day 7. drink tons of water and be sure to work out every day to help purge. Your menu looks great regardless of the limitations - you'll find by day 7, you'll think more creatively about food and be inspired to try new things!!
ReplyDeleteWell this looks yummy for a "cleanse" dinner. The no vinegar nearly killed us. As Annalisa says, Day 3-4 is hard. Ours was 21 days and by about Day 8 it started to be less hard on our bodies... Hang in there...
ReplyDeleteThis is reassuring, because I'm doing a similar cleanse this week to discover potential food intolerances. And don't let her fool ya, Jordana's doing great : )
